[livejournal.com profile] fannishliss wrote a blog entry in which she encourages people to take a pledge: Bring commenting culture back online, and to Live Journal.

I think this is a fantastic idea.  It's one of the things I loved so much about LJ to begin with-- it's the perfect format for sharing art, writing, and blogging, while supporting a very interactive feedback system.  You can actually talk to people here, hold conversations, and I loved that.  But, as social networking sites have multiplied exponentially over the past several years, people are migrating elsewhere.  Which is okay-- I role play on Tumblr, have a Facebook, keep backups and a private blog on Dreamwidth, even toy a bit with Wordpress.  But none of these have quite the combination of creative platform and interactivity that LJ has (except maybe Dreamwidth, which is pretty much an LJ clone, but I can never quite fully integrate myself over there).

And I've been guilty of it.  My friends page is pretty large-- not as big as some, but big enough that I often quickly skim through it, and thus rarely leave comments, though I always try to respond to people commenting on my blog (which I'm not perfect with either-- I've been known to miss comments sometimes, or to delay response a ridiculous length of time).  I know that sometimes it can be difficult to come up with that perfectly phrased response to a work of fiction, a personal blog, or a drawing, but I don't think I'm alone in saying that even a single, succinct acknowledgement can often make an entry worth posting.  So yeah, I'm going to take that pledge, because I think it's a good pledge.

I've seen a lot of people make vows to comment more, to post more and so on. I miss the more active days of LJ and I think the only thing we can do to make them come back is to be active here again - and that means also interacting on flist and on comms and so on.

Of course, everybody has phases where even commenting can be chore and that's okay. But even then we shouldn't forget that this place is about interaction and lives from our conversations. :)

Oh, I miss them too! I first got a LiveJournal back in, oh, 2001 or 2002, back when you had to have an invite code to join up. Those were the days. I don't even have that blog anymore... lol it's been deleted and purged long ago. (I have a terrible habit of randomly starting new blogs because OOH SHINY AND NEW and then the old blogs get left behind and half-forgotten)

Yeah, I don't have my first LJ blog anymore either. (Wasn't in English anyway.) But that one was from a long time ago...

Let's bring back the good times, then.

I try to always comment, even if it is just with a *hug* cause I don't know what to say. It makes my friends feel good, like someone is listening - and it makes ME feel better, too.

*HUGS*

Hugs! Yes, even the slightest acknowledgement can brighten a person's day. :)
