Sep. 22nd, 2011 10:01 amWell, I've decided against doing the comic for the time being. I just honestly wouldn't know where to start-- it would be a complex story to tell, with lots of characters living in an environment that I know next to nothing about. Plus all that art-- sequential work is extremely time consuming. I just don't think I can handle it at this point. Maybe sometime in the future.
I think I am, however, going to pick up this latest TTU challenge, since I skipped the last two (or rather, missed the deadline on one and skipped the other). A few of the photos have caught my eye, especially the dancer en pointe with the feathers around her feet. I have a few thoughts, but I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do.
I've reached the point in my paid game project where I'm re-creating the Major Arcana of the Tarot. I've been working on the Fool. I've toyed with the idea of illustrating a tarot deck before, actually. I love the archetypal stories that are told through the figures and symbols of the cards. Is it a divination tool? I couldn't really say, not literally anyway. I suppose that, if there was a divine force in the universe, she would be quite capable of speaking through such a tool. But I don't know that I believe that anymore. However, there's no denying that stories have power, speaking to us on such a fundamental level. We draw associations and comparisons, and sometimes in doing so, we see things in a new light. As I illustrate that far-wandering, adventurous Fool, in his whimsical clothing, carrying everything he owns slung over his shoulder in a bag, dancing glibly towards the edge of a cliff with his faithful dog at his side and a flower in his hand, I see shades of myself.
Autumn is coming. I am so very happy about this.
