As many of you undoubtedly know, the major ISPs are making deals with big entertainment industry labels to spy on and report on our downloads, and restrict access to those accused of piracy.

I think this is the perfect opportunity to eschew those gigantic corporations for small, independent artists, don't you?

[livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmithshared a link to a petition regarding this big-brother style invasion of privacy, and a number of independent arts and crowdfunded publishers, producers, and hubs here.  (Also, creators, be sure to check out this article by her about Crowdfunding Economics.  It has a large selection of very useful links and articles on various approaches to independently producing and funding your work.)

the petition came to me today by email, from the same people who sent the petition re sopa, so I signed and forwarded it.

Thanks for boosting the signal!

The sheer audacity of these people is beyond belief. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] ysabetwordsmith -- hit 'em where it hurts. Refusing to give the big entertainment corporations money, and giving the money to independent creators and enterprises instead, is the best way to send a message that will be listened to.

Of course, they'll probably try to outlaw independent creative endeavours next. Wouldn't surprise me at all. (Let em try, though, and they'll have an enraged swarm of eccentric artist types to contend with!)
