I decided to pick up and brush off my guru.com freelancer profile today.  This one is geared towards art.  I've landed a few commissions from it in the past, so I thought it might be worth a bit of updating.  It's not as out of date as I thought it was, though I have a few more pieces to add to the portfolio now and I may update some other details.  *laughs*  I'm not sure why I put that weird old photo manip I made of myself awhile back in there.  May need to take that one down (although, come to think of it, I did get a job from that, so maybe I shouldn't).

Yeah, maybe I'll get lucky and land a commission or two from that.  Never know.

I'm pretty much over my cold.  I'm going to put a little bit of work in on "The Sylph" painting tomorrow.  I haven't really worked on it since the file went 'splodey, but I've got a full sized jpg file to use, so I suppose it'll be ok once I start layering the various parts of the painting again.  I hope it didn't lose my palette along with the.xcf file.  *frowns*

A friend of mine posted this recipe to her recipe blog yesterday.  Now I'm a drooling, chocolate-coveting mess.  It's terrible.  And I don't have the ingredients to make it.  *cries*

So, it seems my dad might have a production job soon on a faith-centered documentary about Holocaust survivors and forgiveness.  He might be taking a trip to Poland next year.  Should be interesting.

Bleh.  It's too damn hot.

Is your Dad in filmmaking? What an emotional and fascinating job that would be....

Yep, he's been working towards being a full time filmmaker for over a decade. He's produced a limited theater-release and a few documentaries. He got laid off at the tv station he was working for recently-- they decided to go fully automated in this city due to "budget constraints", though of course they could afford a NASCAR racer, which promptly crashed. lol Karma, bitches. But he's suddenly got a lot of promising prospects for his particular subset (he's very religious, so puts his project focus in that direction). It's good to finally see him making some headway-- he's worked long and hard for it.

NASCAR. Lovely.

My nephew is studying "visual journalism" in university right now. He is only freshman and ALREADY has his own production company. He is really good! But it is HARD HARD work... constantly pitching yourself, proving yourself, etc... He's scrappy, though, and has already videotaped a few instructional videos for the Washington State Patrol and other local government.

Glad to hear your Dad is making headway doing what he wants to do! There are very few talented "religious" filmmakers. There is a lot of cheesiness out there. I, for one, believe that it is possible to speak of faith through the arts. There are a few (very few) good filmmakers working in this genre.

There is a man at our church who is a filmmaker, and has made some recognizable things, but he doesn't specifically make "religious" films... in fact, some of his work would make religious people balk... He has a film out right now in the indie circuit starring Judd Nelson and Tom Arnold. I believe that you use your talent where you are placed, and a religious message doesn't have to be spoken overtly to do its work. (Hope I'm not being too preachy... am I?) Besides, how you treat the people with whom you work and interact is the most influential anyway...

ETA: I changed my user icon to my Serious Time Lord Helmet icon because I was so preachy...

Good for him! I hope he goes far in the field.

Yep, I'm happy for Dad, definitely. And you're not being too preachy. :) I'm not Christian myself, but I do try to keep a strong respect for the beliefs of others.
